My son Jack, aged two, received several blood transfusions in May 2018. He took very suddenly unwell and whilst in PICU suffered a massive internal bleed. He was given at least three or four transfusions over a two day period while he was on a life support machine. Jack had an underlying metabolic condition which is now managed by the specialists at the Royal Victoria Children’s Hospital in Belfast.
Without a doubt he wouldn’t have survived without this blood and we are so grateful to everyone who donates blood to help children like Jack in Northern Ireland.
